Expectations Set...

Hey there, my name is Alan and I am going to be one of the recruits that represents our 2011-1 academy at Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and am honored to to do so. I hope to be able to give you a good idea of what academy life is going to be like for you future cadets and for you civilians out there...enjoy the inside look into the preparation we go through for our law enforcement agencies.

A little about myself; I have a beautiful supporting wife who I confide in everyday, and I wouldn’t be here without her! We have a furry baby named Sadie who keeps us busy...basically all the time. My wife and I are originally from California where we both grew up and where our families still live. We met while we were attending college at Azusa Pacific University in California. We stuck around the Los Angeles area for another four years and then decided that Los Angeles was a good place to be from ;). So we packed our bags and moved out to Colorado.

I was a Business Administration major in college...still not sure why...but I always knew deep down inside, I wanted to make a positive difference in peoples lives. When I received the word that I was accepted into the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office I was honestly overfilled with joy. I knew this was a position that I would have the opportunity to make a positive difference.

This past week I honestly have to say that my eyes were opened to A LOT. We have covered all our introductory paperwork, talked a lot about PT and what to expect...”it’s going to be fun...” (so they say) So you might be wondering who “they” are; well we have a great staff of instructors, Deputy Joselyn, Deputy Ackerman and Sergeant Beaulieu. They all have some great experience under their belts and knowledge that we get to tap for the next 20 weeks! We then learned that leaning on each other and having that peer support is a very crucial part of making it through this type of career. I have to say this academy is already coming together as one large team. We all bring different strengths to the table in order to achieve the same goal...making a difference.

I want to share more of what we learned in this first week, but I don’t want to scare away any potential readers. I will include some of the statistics that we learned about in the next few blogs and I hope to have some pictures of our class up as well. So here is to the next 20 weeks!
